My story

Ball is truly… life

My family sums up who I am today. My values, work ethic, resilience, and confidence are because of how they show up in their respective lives and how they show up for me through the good and challenging times.

I fell in love with basketball the day that basketball saved my family. My parents were divorced for almost 8 years when I was a child. While, they were divorced, my dad always told us to thank God for bringing our family back together. This way of speaking felt weird and foreign but I was willing to do whatever it took to get them back together! And for 8 years I prayed and thanked God for bringing my family back together. Well, there was an AAU tournament that took place and my team met up at a local school to carpool and follow each other. I was in the car with my mom and siblings and my dad was in his old (VERY old!) neon green truck. If you know anything about my dad’s vehicles, they always break down! Anyways, the story continues with the caravan of team cars pulling out of the parking lot on our way to an AAU tournament. As the line of cars made a right turn out of the school parking lot, I noticed my dad’s truck wasn’t in the line nor moving anywhere for that matter. I then saw my dad jump out of his truck frantically and try and wave my mom down. My siblings and I started yelling for my mom to stop the car. She stopped and my dad ran up to the car to see if he could ride with us and…my mom said YES! And that, folks, was the first weekend we traveled to a game together as a family and my parents have been together ever since!
